Fitting in, in SF

For the second time, I'll be living in San Francisco.  This time around it's a little different.  I'm 10 years older, I have a better looking bank account, and will live in the Marina which is about as different as you can get from Laurel Heights.  Last time around, I left when the dot-com boom years turned into a recession.  This time around, I'm arriving in the middle of the recession led by the real estate and financial market crash.

The first time I passed through here, I didn't get out much of it.  I don't think I was really ready for it.  This time around I'm making a point of doing everything I can to get the most out of everything the city has to offer.

So far, I've been to the Benziger Family Winery Open House, a Tweetup (unsuccessful, but at least I caught the Sox Yankees game), a mixer organized by Edelman Digital's SF office, and to some crazy twice a year warehouse furniture sale.

This weekend I'll be checking out the North Beach Festival and the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon before I take a connecting red eye back to Boston.  Next week we're going to the Townley Wines Spring Release Party.

All this as I dive into Twitter, FriendFeed, Facebook, Flickr, and Posterous while struggling to keep http://www.wenzels.net current.  We'll see which lasts and which gets left behind.
